Slurred Speech

Goals for Growth

When I started my business career, I started in sales and marketing. I found that after trying to teach school and coach baseball, I was a good teacher and a great baseball coach. But I could not stand dealing with the parents. I loved working with the kids. The one thing I was always able to do was sell people on my ideas. It was either belief or sales ability or a combination of both, but I always got my ideas accepted.

I then figured sales was my avenue to success. Actually, I was right. I have been a top producer for a yellow page company, an advertising company and the top annuity producer for an insurance company. I have taught people to be better sales people and make more money. I have turned sales organizations from bottom feeders to kings of the hill. How did I do this? Read on.

I began to study long ago the art of using NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It is the art of speaking using embedded commands, voice inflection, and reading your prospect. When you master the art of using NLP, you will master the art of selling and get VERY FEW objections. I have studied under the masters of using NLP. Tony Robbins, yes that Tony Robbins, was my first introduction to NLP. I have studied, Marshall Sylver, a hypnotist and success trainer that uses what he calls “Hypnotic Selling”, Duane Lakin, PhD, a master at NLP training for management, salespeople and telemarketing, and Bill Twyford, a real estate investor that is an expert at writing scripts and using embedded commands. These people have taken me to a new level of sales and sales training.

Goals for growth is actually an acronym. Everyone needs goals.

G stands for greater power. I dont know who you are or what you believe, but I feel there is a greater power in the world. To me it is God, to you it may be Buddha, Allah, or even “The Force” if you are a Star Wars fan. Whatever it is there is a greater force out there. Are you close with that greater power, are you searching for it. If and when you find it, you will be unstoppable.

R stands for realtionships. What relationships mean the most to you. Is it your realtionship with the greater power, your spouse, your family? I personally believe you should have a ranking system to this. Are you interested in building relationships?

O stands for outlook. What is your outlook to life? Are you a positive thinker? Is the glass half full or half empty? Negative thougths cloud our vision, judgement, and outlook. I want postive people around me. I dont know about you, but I dont have time in my life for negativity. I make a lot of money because I follow a process. If you were financially free, what you you be doing right now?

W stands for wealth. How are you going to become wealthy? What is your process going to be? I have a wealth strategy that is time tested. I can show you. Just follow my lead.

T stands for time. Some people can get more done in 24 hours than some in 24 days. Using your time effectively is paramount. If you are to be successful you have to deligate your time, and treat it as an asset.

H stands for health. You have heard the saying “if you have your health you have everything” Actually they are right. you need to be in good condition to lead yourself to success. How are you going to enjoy the fruits of your labor six feet under?

Take advantage of Goals for Growth and see your way to the top

What is Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Gastric bypass surgery is a part of a major change in your life and you may find or be finding that your loved one is resisting you in your decision. Much of their resistance is valid and should be listened to.

They will understandably fear the surgery. It is major and invasive. There is a risk that you will develop complications and die. No one wants to lose their loved one, especially if they feel that the surgery that is about to be performed isn’t necessary.

Of course gastric bypass surgery is often necessary and is even considered a last resort measure because its so drastic. While your loved ones care about you they can’t be you and may not realize how much pain you may be in emotionally or physically. Its important to sit with them and discuss the surgery, even include them in each step you go through on your way to have gastric bypass surgery. This will help them to feel more secure and more knowledgeable about what you are undergoing.

After the gastric bypass surgery you will be losing weight rapidly and will be on a new diet, basically a new lifestyle, which your loved one may find hard to deal with. The whole new you may cause some insecurity. Natural thoughts will run through their heads, such as ‘She’s losing so much weight will she still want me?’ Or they may fear becoming inferior in the relationship because you are changing and they aren’t.

This is a very fragile time emotionally for the both of you and its important to stay connected. Tell your loved one that their support is what helps you be a better person. And reciprocate their love and support by working 100% to support them as much as they support you and more.

Indian Knowledge and Frauds

Iktomi:

Another and somewhat longer term correspondent of mine is a Lakota Sioux Traditionalist in the adopted family of Fool’s Crow or Black Elk. There are many New Age Indian gurus which I have asked her about, including Red Elk. Here is her response to one of these people’s message. The Morning Star mentioned in this quote is Venus and the Mayan calendar has a Short Count which accurately understood the transit of Venus. Venus is also important to the anointing of leaders at New Grange and in Crete as we have quoted Joseph Campbell finding this most remarkable thing. Genetic research dealing with the Haplogroup X marker shows the Sioux are white Keltic people and I show the Iroquois are as well through other sciences.

“Modern new age bunk. They obviously don’t know who Iktomi REALLY was! I gaar-oon-tee he ain’t ANYTHING a real Sioux wants to identify with! Iktomi was a low down skunk of a totally amoral trickster. He committed murder, cannibalism, incest with his own daughter, lied, cheated and stole from anyone to better his own personal gains. He was a letch, a brainless idiot, had no concept of consequence or socialized behaviour. He was the grand anti-example brought up to all young folk as how NOT to live, proceed or act. The Spider web was perceived as a trap, not a connection. (In the few warrior dance costumes that sport the spider theme, it is with the idea of trapping and tricking the enemy without getting caught yourself.)

Iktomi, the poor bastard, was cursed with a silver tongue, is all, to do his con-jobs; and for that, WakanTanka picked him out to be the all-language messenger to the Red Nations to warn of the impending Euro-arrivals. Because of his bad reputation, not all People chose to pay attention to the warning, thinking it just another one of his tricks. No, some upstart wannabes have gone off on their own psycho-trip here, latching their own hope-inspired, ignorant impressions to the Spider image. If they wanted to be correct, all they speak of here IS incorporated into the Morning Star tradition of the Sioux. It is the Morning Star as the inspiration to enlightenment and community bonding, from nuclear, to familial, to Clan, to Tribe, to State, to Country to World Village concept… all the flowery language below is already incorporated into the Morning Star and its symbol, the eight pointed star-pattern {Found on the Tarim Red-Head pictured in National Geographic and noted as the Escutcheon of the Royal House of Mu.} seen on ceremonial quilts. It represents the most intimate bond from Mother to newborn all the way thru responsibility to the Global Environment.

There is no need to invent a webpage full of pirated concepts to say what the Natives already have in their own Tradition. Iktomis like this are what irk me to no end. They are trying to find a buck in all this, one way or another! Hmmmph! ;-) ok, down off my soapbox!”

“That spiritual power I wear is much more beautiful and much greater. We call it wisdom, knowledge, power and gift or love. There are these four parts to that spiritual power. So I wear those.

When you wear that power it will beautify your mind and spirit. You become beautiful. Everything that Tunkashila creates is beautiful.” –Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA

Gaming Laptops, Custom Built Laptops And UMPCs An Increasing Sector

The need for laptops is soaring at present. The battery shortage predicament is not going to help the situation either. Regardless of credit crunches and other economic conditions laptop computer shipments have risen year on year and it doesn’t look to slip any time soon. It’s a rapidly changing business that is seeing new trends all the time.

Laptop computers are becoming more acceptable for gaming due to continuing performance increases. If you’re a gaming enthusiast with a tiny budget the good thing is that you can get a gaming notebook a lot less expensive now because the expected life is coming down. In my opinion notebooks are fairly good for gaming. Processing power is far greater than ever before. Smaller components that perform faster and are more heat efficient also means that gone are the days of the enormous laptop computers for gaming. Regardless of the fact that speed has majorly advanced and the designs are attractive, honestly speed will and should always trail behind desktops. I feel gaming notebooks are always exciting to hear about because they are always pushing the envelope on mobile technology.

I feel we’re seeing greater amounts of start up companies exclusively retailing custom built notebooks. Memory and hard drives are usually high performance engineered components in custom notebooks which hardcore users like. The good thing is that you do not end up paying for unessential additions you do not need. Many of the systems found in highstreet shops are made to get the greatest market share and not the smaller specialist sectors. Custom built notebooks are here for this reason. They provide needs that others can’t. There are many small computer builders about that offer amazing customer care. I surely feel this is a major factor that goes in favour for getting a notebook thats built to .

I can barely wait to see what portables are introduced next. Except from what has already been mentioned Ultra mobile notebooks are another massive niche seeing an increase this year. I didn’t feel anyone thought they would be so trendy. Consumers would like to have large screen ultraportables if that sounds correct. There are portables like this in the market already, just at big ticketdear prices. We are seeing sleeker gaming notebooks now and it seems this is set to continue. Companies are always searching to differentiate themselves in this competitive market so that keeps things developing.

I’d recommend gaming laptop from rizeon.

Leadership - Passion, Purpose, Profit - Its Not That Hard

Go to any educational institution, look at airport bookshelves, shopping centres and open your eyes to the myriad of products available today and you could be forgiven to thinking that the art of leadership was beyond mere mortals.

After many years in corporate life before starting my own business I finally got the chance to prove for myself what I had always beleived - leadership is simple, it is being a person who has passion, purpose and who uses that to bring others with them on the journey and reaps the rewards.

At the time I had taken over a company in financial trouble and that had many human resource issues, some of which were very complicated and required careful handling.

I inherited a ‘basket case’ that needed urgent remedial action to survive and stop imploding. It operated in a number of States of Australia.

Having taken up the challenge, and after several months of very long days and constant travelling, listening to employees and addressing theirs and managements concerns the company started to perform profitably and gain stability.

I was called to meet the European general manager in Asia for a quiet chat. After greeting me he asked ‘Phil - how have you achieved these results? I had been there 6 months.

You see the answer was very simple; it is your people who make the organisation successful not you! You can only do so much and then you will begin to burn out. I have seen the cycle repeat many time over. Why be the richest and unkindest person in the cemetery.

What this confirmed to me was that I was right. By taking the time to listen and mentor employees, honestly resource them and address their concerns they will acheive more than you think.

We need to take the time to listen, show passion and commitment to our employees, empowering them with true leadership and you and your business will gain. Undoubtably some employees may take advantage of this but a leader knows how to inspire and at times fire.

Employees, even if your are the President of the company you are an employee, want to know whether you value them as individiuals. We live in a age where responsiblity needs again to be demonstrated, delegated and empowered.

Leadership - what’s it all about?

Leadership is common sense stuff - to demonstrate by example, credible risk taking, achieving results by taking your people with you on your business journey, to care, listen and learn, to have passion. IT IS WHAT YOU ARE BEING. IT IS CHARACTER NOT IMAGE, SUBSTANCE NOT FORM. It can equally apply to all areas of your life.

Leaders - what do they do?

In my experience and from observation many great leaders have three common elements to leadership that stick out are, leaders,

1. Initiate

Leading by example takes courage. It often requires a commitment to change and to take the initiative when dealing with people and business matters such as integrity, honesty and fairness.

It takes courage to sometimes admit that you do not have all the answers and to include your employees as part of the solution making process and take them with you and then lead by example though authentic genuine living.

It takes courage to break free from the herd mentality when you have done your homework and research and become a trailblazer making new ground and moving in a different direction than the herd. It is not the absence of fear but the conviction that you have done your groundwork and now comes action - INIATE.

2. Participate

The message is clear to lead you need not only to be an initiator but a participator in life’s challenges. Do you include your employees, are you transparent, do you lead by common sense examples demonstrating integrity, commitment and honesty or do you say one thing and practice the other. The word ‘hypocrisy’ comes from the Greek word ‘to wear a mask’ that was used to describe actors many centuries ago. Be authentic not an actor. Lead by example.

3. Inspire (Mentors not Tormentors)

If ever this generation of people needed hope and courage they need it now. We need people to inspire and mentor other people from life experiences and not to put down others and continue to indulge in self-grandiose behaviour. Leaders understand that to give away makes them richer as people and to withhold leads to stagnation.

Ask yourself a few questions about your day to day work life.

1. Do I know my employees partners and children’s names

2. Do I know what interests them

3. Do I take time out to genuinely listen to them

4. Do I reward good performance ie 2 tickets to gold class movies if you know they are movie buffs or something similar.

5. Am I remote

6. Do I say one thing and do the opposite.

In essence DO I SHOW I CARE?

Your life is a book that is read by everyone you come in contact with - what is the message you are giving about LEADERSHIP. COMMON SENSE: YOUR CHARACTER WILL OUTSHINE YOUR WORDS.

THE LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES
(Phil’s law of unintended consequences)

The choices you make today will determine where you are placed tomorrow. Each choice builds on another and all of a sudden you have a foundation - good or bad - your decision my decision.

You cannot escape your responsibility to LEAD your people or they will LEAD your time and you.

People who feel and are genuinely valued are priceless and add great value to your business.

Corporate Censorship

Anonymity personifies the World Wide Web. If you’re someone you can be no one on the web. Feel free to shop for your unmentionables, no one-will stare. You don’t want to haggle with a salesman ever the price of collectible or even a new vehicle? You don’t have to. On the web you are no one and that suits most people just fine.

What does identify you? Hair color? … Certainly your name would identify you. What
about geographic location? Some online retailers are using new technology revealing
just that. One example is in Internet gambling. Many online retailers are beginning
to use said technology to make their sites inaccessible to those where the law
forbids online gambling. It is done on location alone. One only needs to know what
country you call home.

Geolocation technology is being used to protect companies so that their solicitation
cannot reach those consumers that the product being offered would be illegal. In
effect a wall is being built within the Internet, this technology is creating borders
where once there were none. When it comes to selling a product to someone where
it maybe or is in fact illegal. Many would agree that such a technology is long
overdue.

What if what you are looking for is “democracy ” or “human rights”? Geographically
speaking, many governments see this technology as a means to stifle the spread of
such ideas. Trouble is this is already happening without the geolocation
technology. According to Joe McDonald from the Associated Press, Microsoft shut
down an Internet journal of a Chinese blogger, which discussed a strike at a Beijing
newspaper. The story went on to state that Microsoft explained that the blog
“violated their code of conduct” which states that users must be in compliance with
local laws in which the country is based.

In a similar story, Simon Thomas of the Epoch times discovered with the help of a
colleague that his paper (Epoch Times) was unreachable to the residents of China
via the Internet. When Mr. Thomas talked with Google’s Manager of International
Public Relations about the issue, the excuse given was “improving user experience”.
In China if you do a search on a news story, you will get a list of articles that will
match your search criteria, with a summary. If you attempt to click on a link that you
as a resident of China are not allowed to see, the link simply will not click through
to the topic that you selected.

Google, in the interest of providing the best user experience, has completely
excised anything that maybe deemed inappropriate, by the Chinese government
standards to the user. Google took the Chinese government’s censorship further in
the interest of customer service. Previously the user could, at least, read the
summary but now thanks to Google, not the Chinese government, even that is
denied. I’m glad Google doesn’t care that much about my user experience; as Simon
Thomas puts in his article, “you get a false sense of reality. ” With Chinese
censorship, the citizens of China saw what they were missing but now they cannot
even see that.

Suffocating the spread of ideas by corporate America on behalf of the Chinese
government for the Yen. I thought free trade was supposed to spread democracy,
for everyone, instead it is held hostage by those that are supposed to send the
message.

Exercise with Music: Motivation, Results & Performance

Motivation is key and fundamental to your exercise adherence. The environment in which you train must be one that assists you to stay upbeat, in tempo and interested. This is after all how you will be spending (hopefully) at least 3-4 hours per week.

Many studies are being conducted on the benefits of listening to music while exercising. Results have been astonishing. Studies conducted by Ohio State University found that exercising to music increased brain power, brain function and verbal fluency through the positive stimulation of the nervous system. They also determined that when there was no music present, there was no change in verbal ability or brain function. Most sport psychologists have also noted improved performance and adherence rates during training and competition.

Other studies have found an increase of respiration, higher exercise heart rate levels and greater exercise potential. People affected by neuromuscular disorders while listening to faster temp music will also benefit through enhancing gross motor skills like walking and facilitating the rehabilitation process.

In addition, playing slower more relaxing music has proven to reduce stress, relax and aid recovery and meditative techniques.

The most popular forms of entertainment while exercising include music and television. Most health clubs these days even have cardio theatre which integrates audio visual TV and music videos with personalized headsets for members to enjoy their favourite show or music channel of choice. For those whose health clubs do not, the next most popular choice is a personalized music set either a walkman, Discman or MP3 player.

Be more aware of the background music playing in your health club while training. Music should be more upbeat, with a faster tempo to increase exercise performance and maximise energy expenditure.
Slower, more relaxing music, such as natural landscapes decreases one’s fitness potential capacity, which in turn will facilitate cool down activities and mind body exercises like stretching, Yoga and Pilates.

All in all, there is definite evidence that listening to music enhances exercise performance, allowing for faster achievement of your exercise and fitness goals, improved adherence to exercise, relaxation and a general improvement in physical and mental wellbeing. It’s all good.

So next time your about to hit the gym, take your trusty iPod and enjoy the benefits of improved exercise performance, higher arousal and greater inspiration to go that extra 10 minutes or get your heart rate up that extra 10 beats per minute.

Call Centers - Are They Really Efficient?

We live in a very fast-paced environment so the call center may be looked upon as a boon for modern day living. By that I mean in its base form you call some faceless person and they deal with your problem.

Now, in its most simplistic form, this would seem terrific. Imagine your washing machine breaks down, you call a number, without knowing it you are transferred to a call center. The person takes down your information and hopefully everything is OK. Next call please!

Let’s take a step back. Most major companies use call centers now. I understand they are cost-effective and the shareholders of that company like it because the “efficiency” is up simply because company phone lines are not clogged up with customer service issues.

Call centers by the way can handle as many differing company issues as their system will allow. So, you may be phoning with a question about your hypothetical washing machine part, your next door neighbour needs a part for his vacuum cleaner and your relative has a question about a computer problem. Chances are the same call center are dealing with the three different calls. Just different staff.

How about the impersonal dealings. That, of course is very true. You are just talking to a voice. He/she doesn’t really understand how upset you are (that’s if you have a complaint). They simply want to process the query as quickly as possible and move on to the next one. Now, this is where things start getting a bit tricky. A fair proportion of call centers now operate on the sub continent of India. You don’t need to be an economist to understand the reason why. Very nice folk the Indians. However, I challenge anyone to tell me that if you are talking to an Indian person and you are from another predominantly English-speaking nation, that you don’t have problems with the Indian accent.

Now this is no “fault” of the operator. Naturally, they are trying to give us the best service possible and no doubt they do. But first up, how can the service be completely efficient if you have to keep asking the operator to repeat themselves so you can get an understanding of what they are saying.

This is not a gripe about Indian folk in call centers. I merely point out the fact that call centers are set up purportedly to increase efficiency and save money. After what has been said in the previous paragraph, I very much doubt if that is the case.

In any case, with customer service, I look forward to - no expect - to talk to someone who has a knowledge of the topic I am about to discuss. I feel it is an important part of what I want. I don’t subscribe to the view that if we didn’t have call centers that the cost of products would increase. If that be the case why, when call centers were introduced, didn’t the price of goods come down.

Companies seem to follow patterns of other companies. I just sometimes wonder if that is a little ostrich-like in thinking. Perhaps in time we will revert to the old-fashioned ways of buying things over the counter and paying for them as we go. Let’s hope so.
